On the occasion of Modernism Week which takes place next February in Palm Springs, California the perfect idea for a weekend out in the desert is the Modernism Week Preview from October 21th till 23th. If you’ve never been out to the desert you should hurry up – Tickets are already on sale here.
See Palm Springs with the Ambassador of Americana! Humorist and tour guide extraordinaire, Charles Phoenix, will lead you on an entertaining adventure atop a double-decker, open-air bus.
Enjoy a historical walking tour and learn about the Palm Springs “founding fathers” who actually were women! Pioneer John McCallum envisioned an agricultural community, and later his daughter Pearl McCallum McManus, alongside other forward-thinking women such as Nellie Coffman, Cornelia White, Julia Carnell and Zaddie Bunker, created an enchanting vacation paradise.
Another highlight is the walking tour among the stars in prestigious and historic neighborhood Old Las Palmas which has one of the highest concentrations of celebrity homes anywhere. Elizabeth Taylor, Kirk Douglas, Katherine Hepburn, Gene Autry, Lena Horne, Dinah Shore and many other Hollywood stars have been residents here.
Definitely a must see is Frank Sinatra’s beautiful “Twin Palms” estate, designed by modernist architect E. Stewart Williams in 1947. Join the Palm Springs Preservation Foundation (PSPF) for a tour.
And there s so much more to explore! Everything else you can find here.
