Saving an Icon: The Restoration of Hotel Lautner
Los Angeles Interior Designer and Palm Springs Preservation Foundation board member Tracy Beckmann will provide her personal insights into the renovation of the award-winning Hotel Lautner in Desert Hot Springs, designed by legendary American architect John Lautner in 1947 shortly after his graduation from Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin West school of architecture.
As co-owner and designer, Tracy will expound on the glamorous but forgotten history of the original owner and movie mogul Lucien Hubbard’s vision, and the challenges she faced during her hands-on renovation of the architecturally-significant property. The lecture will include “before-and-after” photographs which will highlight the full magnitude of the property’s magnificent transformation. Tracy’s talk will provide aficionados of great architecture some practical insight into what it takes to save some of America’s most important and iconic buildings.
Since opening its doors to the booking public nearly five years ago the creators of Hotel Lautner have expanded their enterprise and are excited to introduce you to The Lautner Compound, a collection of three boutique properties masterfully restored and designed: The Lautner, The Park, and The Ranch House.
Following Tracy’s lecture guests will enjoy light refreshments and tour the grounds of The Lautner Compound including one of the four Lautner residences.
The Palm Springs Preservation Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is “to educate and promote public awareness of the importance of preserving the historical resources and architecture of the city of Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley area.” PSPF offers free membership as a public benefit.
