Finding the right lighting (and light) for your project can be tricky nowadays! Till now LED lamps and bulbs had the problem that most of them generated horrible results when thinking about natural old-style bulb light and the color rendering index hardly reached a CRI of 80. With today’s warmer colors at 2700 K and a CRI>90 there are much more options and products to choose from.
For one of our recent projects where we used simple and well-made materials combined with natural colors we wanted the perfect light for different locations around the house.
We found the perfect product for our demands with Claesson Koivisto Rune’s half-moon shaped IO scones designed in 2015 for FontanaArte.
Lighting is an interesting but difficult issue to deal with which demands a lot of experience and empathy of the architect. With light you can support a project or completely ruin it, there’s nothing in between!

Shaped like a small curved lunar disc, IO is a wall lamp designed for LED light sources. Thanks to its dual-axis rotation frame, it has the distinguishing feature rotating on both longitudinal and transverse axes, for total light management. IO is easy to handle and adjust thanks to its size, the Up/Down movement on the external diffuser widens and narrows the ray of light.
Like a satellite with the planet around which it orbits, the IO lamp appears almost suspended, very close to the wall yet never touching it, positioned at a distance that allows the light to gently caress the wall in an intimate wall-washing effect.Designed to provide light that is as personal and adjustable as possible, this lamp is ideal at the bedside but its versatility also makes it an excellent solution for illuminating walls in an office or corridors in a hotel.Despite its small size and ease of maneuver, the screen in die-cast aluminum conveys great sturdiness, as does the wall mounted base.
For us here at Architect and Friends IO is a versatile today’s masterpiece suitable for many different kinds of projects (and the LED technology finally reaches an acceptable quality).
